#killmesaveme (2019)

As my most personal piece, “#killmesaveme” is a digital photography series that visualizes my depression. The series, as a whole, utilizes a variety of colored razors that represent my different moods from my cutting episodes. For example, the pink razors represent my hope in dark times, using self harm as a source of distraction. The layered fragments on each print are burnt pieces from my journal – a notebook specifically designated for my thoughts during my breakdowns. I obscured the identities of the models and placed them in monotonous environments to convey how depression can affect anyone. The embedded fragments from my journal exhibit how suicidal thoughts insidiously follow you in daily life. As our society continues to stigmatize mental health, "#killmesaveme" strives to shed light on the prevalence of mental illnesses amongst teenagers in this digital age.
